Correspondence, Reports, Subject Files 1957-1988; 1972-1986.

This series comprises records retained by the Area Secretary for Latin America and the Middle East for The American Lutheran Church's (TALC) Division for World Mission and Inter-Church Cooperation (DWMIC). They are from 1957-1988 with the bulk of records dating from 1972-1986. These records were generated throughout the course of business conducted by the Office for Latin America and the Middle East as it related to mission work carried out by TALC in those regions. Record types include handwritten and typewritten business correspondence, news articles, topical reports, proceedings from consultations, and trip reports from mission field tours and visits. The most prevalent record type is correspondence with much of it written in Spanish or Portuguese. Subject matter pertains to areas in which TALC was involved in mission work, as well as programs and projects to which it provided either financial or administrative assistance. There are several records pertaining to projects receiving United Mission Appeal funds. Even though there are records that pertain to individual countries, the other series in this subgroup, Brazil and Spanish-speaking Latin America, have additional records for some of these countries. Primary authors of the correspondence include area secretaries the Rev. John C. Westby, 1972-1979 and the Rev. David H. Nelson, 1979-1987. Records are arranged alphabetically by subject.
